new patients
Becoming a patient takes one phone call.
Here's the whole process: book online or call 540-885-8037, bring your insurance card, and show up. We handle records transfer from your previous office and verify your coverage before you arrive. Dr. Podbesek is accepting new patients — you'll see him, not a rotating cast.
The rest of this page is just detail. One call is the whole requirement.
What your first visit looks like
Budget about an hour. It opens with a conversation — your history, what you want from your teeth — then low-dose digital X-rays if you're due, an iTero scan that models your bite in 3D, a cleaning when gum health permits, and an exam narrated on the screen beside you. You walk out knowing where you stand in plain terms, and if treatment belongs in the picture, it arrives as a written plan with cost estimates before a single appointment goes on the books.
Want the full preview? The first-visit page lays the whole appointment out in sequence.
If it's been years — read this part
Roughly one in three of our new patients last saw a dentist more than five years ago. Wherever you're starting from is fine — mention it to the front desk and extra time goes on the schedule.
And that's the whole protocol. Your visit opens with talking, not instruments; the lecture never comes, since you can count the years yourself; and whatever happened in the meantime is simply where the plan begins, not a judgment. Treatment gets sequenced by importance, at whatever pace suits you.
Insurance, forms, and money questions
We're in-network with Delta Dental, Cigna, United Concordia, and we accept most other major PPO plans — the front desk verifies your specific plan before your first visit so you know what's covered. Registration can be handled online ahead of time through the registration page, which saves you fifteen minutes at the desk.
No coverage? The Virginia Dental Club was built for exactly that — an in-house membership where a flat annual fee takes care of your routine visits. Its page has the specifics, and so does the front desk.
Questions we hear in the chair
- Are you accepting new patients?
- Yes. Dr. Podbesek is welcoming new patients now — schedule online, or phone the office and request the earliest opening.
- Do you take my insurance?
- We're in-network with Delta Dental, Cigna, and United Concordia, and we accept most other major PPO plans. Call and the front desk will verify your specific plan before your visit.
- Should I track down my old records first?
- No — schedule first. Tell us where you used to go and we'll chase the records ourselves. If your previous X-rays are recent enough, we reuse them rather than re-imaging you for paperwork's sake.
- Can we get the whole family established together?
- Yes — mention the headcount when you call, and the front desk will piece together a block of appointments that fits. Grandparents, parents, and kids all come to the same office.
- What if I'm anxious about the visit?
- Say so when you book. We'll add extra time to your appointment, explain each step before doing it, and offer nitrous oxide if that helps. The patient-comfort page covers all of it.
