Opalescence Boost — chairside whitening, no light required.
Your Opalescence Boost session uses a chemically activated whitening gel that's mixed fresh in the chair. There's no curing lamp, no heat, and no take-home homework — you leave your appointment with a noticeably brighter smile.
How an Opalescence Boost session unfolds
Your visit starts with a quick exam of your enamel and gums and a record of your starting shade. A protective barrier is placed along your gum line so the whitening gel only contacts tooth surface. Then the chemically activated gel is mixed fresh in the chair using Opalescence Boost's double-syringe system and applied across the front of your smile.
Two 20-minute applications complete the active whitening portion of the visit. Because the gel activates chemically, you don't sit under a light or wear protective glasses against a heat source. Many patients use the time to listen to music, read, or simply rest. After whitening, the gel is fully removed, your gums are checked, and you receive a short list of staining foods and drinks to avoid for the first 48 hours.
What's in the Opalescence Boost formula
Per the manufacturer, the active whitening agent is 40% hydrogen peroxide. The formula also contains potassium nitrate, included to help reduce sensitivity during and after whitening, and fluoride, included to support enamel remineralization. The gel is mixed fresh for each application rather than poured from a pre-mixed container, which keeps the concentration consistent.
Choosing between in-office whitening systems
Opalescence Boost is one of two in-office whitening systems we offer. The other is Zoom! Whitening, which uses a light to activate its gel. Both deliver meaningful chairside results in a single appointment; the right call for you depends on your sensitivity history, preference, and what your dentist sees during the consultation. For an overview of all of our whitening options, see the professional teeth whitening page.
Whitening lifts color from natural tooth structure only — it won't lighten existing crowns, veneers, or large fillings on front teeth. If you have visible restorations, we'll talk through how those should be planned around any whitening so your final smile reads as one shade.
One appointment, a brighter smile.

Opalescence Boost — questions patients ask most
What is Opalescence Boost?
Opalescence Boost is a chairside whitening gel from Ultradent that uses a chemically activated 40% hydrogen-peroxide formula. Because the activation happens chemically rather than under a light, the procedure doesn't require any heat or curing lamp. We offer it at our Medical Park Drive office in Fishersville.
How long does an Opalescence Boost appointment take?
Plan on about an hour. Active whitening time is two 20-minute applications back to back, with the gel mixed fresh on the chairside just before each application. Time before and after is for gum protection, color recording, and post-care instructions.
Does Opalescence Boost contain fluoride?
Yes. The Opalescence Boost formula includes potassium nitrate and fluoride alongside the whitening agent. Per the manufacturer, potassium nitrate is included to help reduce sensitivity, and fluoride to help support enamel strength. These are not separate treatments — they're built into the gel.
How is Opalescence Boost different from Zoom! whitening?
Both are chairside professional whitening systems with strong hydrogen-peroxide gels. Zoom! is light-activated; Opalescence Boost is chemically activated, so no curing lamp is used. Your dentist on Medical Park Drive will help you choose between them based on your sensitivity history, schedule, and the look you want.
Is Opalescence Boost safe for my enamel?
Used as directed in a dental office, professional whitening — including Opalescence Boost — does not change the structure of your enamel. Some patients experience temporary cold sensitivity for a day or two afterward. We screen for cavities and gum issues before whitening so the gel doesn't aggravate either.
Can I follow up with take-home whitening?
Yes. Many patients pair an in-office Opalescence Boost session with custom take-home trays so they can reach their target shade and refresh it later as needed. We'll fit your trays during the same visit when that fits your plan.
